The Minor Thirds

Saturday, February 25, 2006

A study in contrast. The last show we did was very, very loud with chatter, and I screamed instead of sang, and it was not as much fun as we'd hoped. This show was in a converted church (with a giant neon crucifix [Jesus in blue, the blood of his wounds in red] hanging above the stage), everyone was sitting in seats, being quiet and paying attention, and I could hear myself, and sang. So, that is good.

I played the uke for the entire set, and was joined for a few songs ("Just Once", "Mail Fraud", "Lope With Me") by daredevil John Cunningham of Canasta on the clarinet. This worked out very nicely. You don't get to see a ukulele and clarinet duo every day.

Afterwards, the Bird Names played a rambunctuous and ramshackle set, and the bow-tied lead singer did a few Ethel Merman vocal stylings, and it was thoroughly pleasing.

We sure have been playing a lot of Celesteville songs on the ukulele lately, haven't we?

1. The Angel's Revenge
2. Chickens
3. Shit City
4. Just Once
5. I'm Staying Home!
6. Dixie
7. Mail Fraud
8. The Athletes Of God
9. Lope With Me [Celesteville]
