The Minor Thirds

Sunday, January 29, 2006

Ross Beach asked us to play at his holiday house party, and so we did the only responsible thing we could do: Get sick. Chris was just coming out of a cold and was not playing with a full voice, and Calvert was knocked down for the count and couldn't make it, and sickness had prevented us from rehearsing much, which was fine since we hadn't played a show together since, what, July? Less than an hour before we were supposed to play, Chris's voice suddenly and for no good reason got shot, and emergency supplies of licorice tea and honey were rushed down his throat. Ross played, Tyler Riggs played, S. Broox of Minmae played a lovely set, and then Ross played a few more songs to give us a little extra time to heal, before it was time.

Well, we made do. Charlotte and Chris shared a vocal mic, and everyone said the levels sounded fine so we'll just have to trust them. Since we couldn't sing with great accuracy we had to sing with great energy, which was our plan anyways since it was a party and all. We had two songs prepared and then played all requests. The Countess von Hellpet switched allegiances and became the Countess von Minor-Third to join us for "If This Song...", doing a fantastic turn as the diva. "Pitstop" was requested, so we played it uptempo, "Shit City" style. It's possible that "Omaha" was requested by a shill in the crowd, we'll never know for sure.

It was a short and sweet set. Per Se played a lovely and calmer set after us. And then keys were exchanged and everyone had a happy ending.

1. The Homunculus Stomp
2. If This Song Doesn't Make Me A Million Bucks, We, As A Nation, Are Fucked
3. The Angel's Revenge
4. (Please Won't You Be My) Pitstop
5. I'm Staying Home!
6. Omaha
7. Moose Jaw
