The Meow Meow is a very very hot venue in the summer. And Monday was, I suspect, the hottest day of the year so far.
It could really use to not be so hot anymore.
Anyway so everyone came to the Meow Meow (except for the folks who had wilted in the heat, they stayed home with their iced teas and PBRs) and we crammed everyone into the smaller room and played an acoustic set. I suspect that a lot of the folks who were there didn't expect to enjoy a little acoustic band but I think we managed to win them over. Once again the chicken song received a great burst of applause and was the song people were talking about afterwards.
So yes. We sweated and sweated. Jake and Joanie had brought a little battery-operated hand-held fan that also atomized water: It was much needed. Charlotte wandered through the room squirting people to cool them down. Chris sweated and sweated while singing about chickens. It was fun.
Then Flaspar came on and wow, you want to talk about sweat? Little acoustic trios sweat daintily compared to Flaspar's noise dance madness sweat. Manny (of atole, who is the singer for Flaspar and who joined us for "...Million Bucks...") was wearing little shorts and nothing else and sang and squealed and made a joyful noise. They have a song called "Takanohashi Robot" which will make even the most jaded Portland wiggle a little. Check them out!
