Oh my stars and bars but the show at the Meow Meow was nice!
Bleary after the first day back at school and at work, we loaded up surprisingly early, ran to grab a quick bite at Nicholas's, and then proceeded to play musical chairs with both our setlist and the band order.
Milk ended up going first, strumming softy and singing with, well, with a lot of reverb. The guy who is Milk was joined by some friends for a few songs, and it was still soft and sweet and reverby.
Have we mentioned how much we love the Meow Meow? It's an all-ages, no smoking, no drinking venue. Instead of an alky bar they have a sugar bar, where you can get cheap soda and candy. But apparently their squishies are a thing of the past! This is ridiculous. Their squishies were sublime. I think it is time to start a petition to bring the squishies back to the Meow Meow.
Our set was, compared to some of the shows on the tour, restrained; Chris wasn't screaming his head off so much. And this was nice. So nice. People were, you know, listening, paying attention, being respectful! We could hear ourselves sing! Even though there was ambient lighting, we could see the audience. And three-year-old Finn was there. Finn played harmonica during "Lesbian On Skis" and it was so very, very nice. It is good to be back in Portland.
After us the Culottes played, and they had a cello. The cello is a lusty instrument and it's difficult not to enjoy any band that uses one. Then Bronwyn played and brought the house down, especially with an over-the-top version of "No Project No".
Any evening where there are four bands and we're the third loudest is, well, a special evening indeed. Anyway, here's the poster and the setlist:
1. Reno
2. I'm Staying Home!
3. Meat Shower
4. The Revolutionary's Love Song
5. The Lothario's Lamentations
6. Acknowledge Your Folly
7. Welcome To The Occultation
8. Portland
9. Lesbian On Skis
